Is there a way to completely depressurize the fuel system before removing the fuel filter? When I changed mine I removed the fuel pump fuse, and let the engine run until it died of thirst, but I still got a spray of gasoline when detaching the fuel line from the filter...

Isn't the fuel tank pressurised in modern cars?
Opening the filler cap should take care of that
