1.9 TD Xantia2 Rad Removal

Post by Gregg1100 »

Hi,
I had a go at getting the rad out of this car and failed. The bottom hose bayonet fitting is firmly stuck in plastic rad outlet, with no room at all to get any effort applied to twist it out. The top hose fitting was hard enough to get out, and that was easy to get at.
What dickhead thought of bayonet fittings---both the other ends of top and bottom hose have NORMAL open ends, that you just slide on and secure with a jubilee clip (after the spring clips have been thrown in bin).
All designers should be shafted with the blunt end of a pineapple for coming out with ideas like these.

Thanks,
Greg

1.9 TD Xantia2 Rad Removal

Post by Gregg1100 »

Hi,
Having managed to get on the Cit service site and looked at the expanded diagrams, I saw that there is a spur off the main bottom hose which runs up to the expansion tank. More fun and games- not. New hose equals nearly 49 drinking vouchers.

Carefully split the plastic on the rad around the metal bayonet fitting if the rad is going in the bin.

I agree with the style of fitting being a totally crap idea. Can't beat the push on/jubilee clip.

remove the washer bottle/tank then it makes access alittle easyer, on re/fitting the hoses into the rad (top and bottom) make sure you lubb them plenty with silicon grease, otherwise the seals roll out of there seat, then it constantly leaks

Good idea---didn't think of that. Once hose is removed I can get the rest of plastic off where I can see it, lol.
Thanks for that,
Greg
