I have a vague memory of asking before but drew blanks back then and as Toby asked about it recently thought I'd put a picture up for your amusement.

This is a picture of the N/S wing, bumper removed.
(Not the small connector to the right, that's the indicator plug). It's obviously a loom connector but it's blanked rather than fitting onto something which makes me suspect it's to do with the ABS that wasn't fitted to this car. (Air con is, but not ABS

)

Mike,

Quite possibly not, the ABS ECU and block sit below the LHM tank under the bonnet NOT in the wing... MORE likely to be Cruise Control related, the Vac unit is fitted in the Passenger wing, drivers side is taken up by the washer bottle

So my Bet is Cruise control Motor unit!

Nah; definitely not the cruise control. It's near where I (and many others) have the Bitron installed, but that's a brown plug from memory.

Being grey I wonder if it's part of the earlier hydractive loom.

Cant be! The car has GOT Air con! ALL Air con cars have the Bitron box for the Fans in that area, unless its a one off system without the unit....

Sorry, I forget to mention the Bitron was located in the compartment above it, under the headlight.

Jim, could it not be the harness connector for the ABS system?

Cant be ABS! Thats under the LHM tank! Im still sticking to Cruise Control Pump unit!

Theres nothing ABS related in that area that needs the big plug!

You'll be eating your hat... The cruise (vacuum and reg) module has a three pin round plug. The cruise computer is located inside the cabin on all Xantia models, and has a 15-pin black coupling with several pin locations unused. I have a picture or two, if you want to see it.

All of the tributary wires to this plug will have numbers on them. Publishing a few will get the ID process underway. As will counting the pin locations (possible, not just those used). The connector is grey (gris) so its denotation per an appropriate wiring diagram will be something like 30V GR.

Im stumped then, all I can think of then is a Central EARTHING point, a bad way to cheat and join a load of wires together to one point maybe??

Ive not got a S2 Xantia to check against!

Now, if you could see any numbers on the wires, that would help identify it.

I guerss it's a bit too late for that now though

- Not Bitron,
- Not Air Condition
- Not ABS
- Not Cruise Control

I have the same "mysterious" connector and all above are functioning without any problems.

I remember that I have seen this connector in my Xantia as well. I was trying to get some pictures of the fog light from back side. It was in one of the pictures, neatly fixed with a cable tier and had dust cover protecting the pins as in the above picture. The location is almost same level as fog light on the left side (battery, LHM resv. side).

This is turning into quite a game then 8)

I will try and get more info but with the car now parked nose to wall, set to low with the bumper and lights all back on it won't be today. I'll see if I can get a part number and wire numbers - anything else I should look for?

The reason I keep suggesting the (non)ABS circuit was because these connectors are also used to pass looms through metal walls and I wondered if the loom from the ABS (which I understand lives where my water pump is now - below and between LHM tank and Fuse Box) needed to be routed out the engine bay as the ABS is the only thing I can think of that doesn't need the wiring connected.

Patience my friends. I'll be back tomorrow, hopefully with so more clues. No hat eating required, it's all good fun

One thing that resides under there on S2 Xantia's is an Eberspächer diesel burner but they are normally reserved for HDi's.
