Relay Query. Really!

1996 Xantia 1.9 TD Hatch.

Can anyone advise on the purpose of the relay at the lower end of the cabin fuse box. It's green (I think).

Pulled it out whilst tinkering and when I tried to put it back in the socket into which it plugs disappeared into the dash! Managed to get it on after a bit finger shredding, but would be pleased to know what it actually relates to as I couldn't find anything that didn't work when it was removed!
