Last week my service light came on as well as my airbag light on the display. I've also been getting a strange clicking noise from the steering wheel whenever I turn it that's led me to believe that this is a broken Rotary Switch.
This can only be done at the garage can't it? I have tried searching for replacement parts but unable to find one for my car. I have the 1.6 3dr megane with climate and remote radio controls on the right hand side.
I contacted my local garage and they told me it would cost about £250 to replace.
I also noticed that there is a strange cable with a clip at the end hanging down loose underneath the drivers seat. I believe that this is the seat position sensor and depending on whether it is forwards or backwards determines how much it blows up the airbag?
The problem I have is it seems to have pulled itself out and I can't see where it is supposed to go back as there is no obvious place for it to connect to. If you know please help.
This is a photo of the clip that's hanging down under the drivers seat:

On the passengers side the same wire seems to go back to the front of the seat and connect on the underside at the front underneath. However there doesn't appear to be any such similar socket for it to go into on the drivers side and the wire with this strange clip on that's hanging down isn't long enough to reach there anyway so I am thinking there must be something right underneath the seat itself or to the sides of the seat that it connects with?
If you know where this cable goes please help. I just need to cover all bases and check that this isn't causing the fault before I take it in to get the whole rotary switch replaced which will cost £250.
I'am pretty sure the Rotary is gone and need replacing but would like to get this clip connected back up to see if it makes any difference or at leasts gets rid of the airbag light.
Cheers,
John
