Xsara central locking fault

A while ago I had a problem where on locking the door with the remote, the doors would lock and then immediately unlock themselves. Eventually I found how to re-set the system which may be of use to others. You need to follow the instructions carefully as the sequence and timings are critical.

Open drivers door
Put key in ignition and turn on ignition but do not start the engine
Press and hold the lock button on the remote for 5 seconds
Turn off the ignition and remove the key
Wait 5 seconds then test the system
All should now work correctly.

The above assumes there is no fault in the wiring of course
