C5 VTR eratic idle speed and cutting out

hi all,

i have a C5 VTR 2L that has an eratic idle speed and cutting out are there any obvious things i could look for before a dealer plug in.

Coolant Temp Sensor or Idle Control Valve

Thats my opinion on where to start looking. :wink:
1993 Citroen xm 2.1td, silver/grey, bowling ball wheel trims, 210k and climbing...
