couple of daft questions relating to my 2.0 vsx

Unread post by admiral51 »

This is probably going to make a few people chuckle but can anyone please tell me if the blue plug in the following pic is the location of the oil temp sensor as my gauge is not working
Image
Any hints/fixes/checks before i spend some hard earned stuff at the stealers most appreciated :)

And this is the belly laugh one

Which of the spheres in this pic is the acc sphere never had anything other than one in this region before

Thanks in advance

The accumulator is the sphere on the left/attached to the engine, the one just behind the radiator is the front Hydractive sphere.

I think you're right about the temperature sensor wire but I don't have my TD to hand to confirm it 100%, what I will mention is that on non turbo Xantia's the oil temperature gauge rarely seems to move from my personal experience.

Hi Colin,

I'd say the blue plug is the oil temperature sensor and I'll agree with Richard on them reading not a lot on a MK1.

My Activa oil rarely crawls much off the end-stop but yesterday it actually struggled all the way to 50 degrees   And that is hot for me! Maybe I do't drive it very hard

Remember an alloy sump in the breeze and given the position of the sensor, the oil is going to be nice and cool there.

On a MK2, they seem to read better. My old MK2 Activa used to run at 80 degrees :?

Thanks Richard and Jim
Glad the acc sphere is a bit more accessable as that needs doing first not looking forward to doing the Hydractive centre sphere

Looks like i will leave the oil temp sensor for a bit until i manage to get it back on the road and driving it properly 8) 8)

A bit cheeky i know but do you have the wiring diagrams for the central locking/alarm etc Jim as i think i may have overlooked an electrical gremlin   details to be blogged soon

They can be huge fun Colin  Often they need to be cracked off under pressure and a nice douche-vert is almost a certainty   Just remember that LHM is an excellet hair conditioner

Colin, quick wander off topic: the pictures show that the slit in the shroud holding the wires along the bottom of the radiator is facing forwards.
Water can get in, and rot the wires.
The opening should be at the bottom, to let the water out.
Rotten wires in there cause strange, unrelated electrical faults.

Mine goes upto 70 most of the time and once had it creep over but i guess as i've flushed out the cooling system it helps keep the oil temp quite low but is good for the colder mornings as they both heat up quite quickly, much quicker than the HDi ever did :)

Hi Clogzz
the pictures were taken shortly after i aquired the car and after some electrical fault tracing in that particular loom the slit in the shroud is indead now facing down :) :)
But a ruddy good spot 8) 8)

It turns out that the o/s/r door although "shut" enough for the central locking to lock the doors occasionally it would not deadlock.
A simple fix was just to shut the ruddy thing properly
Then i could sync the remote and all is now well... much easier than delving into wiring diagrams and looms :D :D
