C5 GPS antenna location

Post by dnsey »

Does anyone know where the antenna for the factory-fitted GPS system is on the early C5?
I discovered the other day (should have realised before) that the athermic windscreen blocks the signal for my satnav, and I'm wondering where an external antenna will have the best view of the sky, preferably without drilling a hole in the roof!

It's in the aerial base over the back window, no?

Yes the factory fit one is in the normal areial base. The two black shaded areas on the windscreen at either side of the rear view mirror are non athermic for the fitment of road toll tags etc. these areas are also ideal for GPS aerials, the cable can be routed neatly along the headlinings & down the A pillars.

I have a TOMTOm 730 which I hold out the window which gets a fix real quick (under 10 sec) and it works fine after that with it's internal gps. I have it located botom right on the dashboard.
