c5 2.0hdi automatic poor running- help!

Post by jphenrick »

Hi all

ive had this car since new only covered 8300 miles

had problems late last year car constantly coughing and had erratic running

fault found by dealer to be exhasut gas release valve and ECU

had these replaced

now i have similiar problem back again after doing just 1800 miles

after approx 5 minutes of use when the car is up to 40mph the rev counter is constantly boucning up and down - engine appears to be 'hunting'

effect feels like im tapping the accel pedal - its like driving a see saw!!

been back to the dealer twice now they tell me no fault found!!! im not happy

seems to be poor on pull away and hold back then power kicks in - yesterday when it did this had clouds of smoke!

anyone any advice on what to do next?

What year is your C5?

What 2.0 HDi engine have you got? 90,110 or 136?

Seems very low mileage for an 07 car. Do you do many miles with it? It might need a good run and a bit of a blast maybe? You could try some fuel system cleaner.

Thats the simple things anyway, other than that it could be a number of things. The MAF sensor can cause poor running and a sluggish perfroamnce when pulling away.

Its odd that it seems to be causing quite a problem and yet its not recording a fault code.

Hi

thanks for the reply and comments

ive had the car since new only do approx 8000 miles a year

no faults shown on dashboard - the dealer told me this as well.

i dont think they can have road tested it though as both times ive been back with it the fault is there within 5 minutes of leaving the dealers

havent done much motorway work mostly town and bypass even at 5-/60 there is the occasional speed change on its own

my previous 2 c5's had no issues both 2.0 but the 110 versions. this is my first auto though

its just getting unacceptable to drive so i'll be back to the dealers early next week but i'm not hopeful

i have tried the highe performance diesel but its made no difference

thankfully its under warranty

The only thing i can suggest is, cars with FAP filters need a bit or motorway use to get the car up to high temperature for the filter to do its work.

Your current C5 will have this filter, but your previous 110s wont.

It might be a good idea to give it an hour or so run at the limit down the motorway and see how it goes from there.

Id possibly try that first, but luckily you still have warranty, if your dealer isnt helping, you could always try another?

HI tried it on the motorway no difference

this week it got worse engine hunting all the time

took it back to the dealer and they found a fault!

said they got th engine management light to come on - they had to fill tank i/2 up with diesel and rebuild the particle filter dont know how they did that?

got it back this evening seesm ok so far

Sounds like regenerate the particle filter.

I think this involves the computer making the car run at high revs for an extended period of time to super heat the exhaust.
