Radio Reset

Post by OwenP »

Anyone know how long I need to leave the battery out of my 405 before the radio will reset from "SECURITY"?

I have a long drive next week and don't fancy complete silence (well 1.9TD clatter) for the entire trip.

It might be a case of "How long do I need to to leave the ignition on?". Usually with Blaupunkts, for example, the more times you enter an incorrect code the longer the unit locks you out...

It could help if you shared the make and model of radio with us ;)

Will have a look at the radio, its the standard fit 405 radio as far as I know.

Ignition has been on for prolly about 2-3 hours but the code was entered incorrectly about 4-5 times. (darn memory.)

There were a few standard radios - Blaupunkt, Philips, Clarion (and probably others)...

2-3 hours might not be long enough for the radio to reset. 5 hours was the longest wait I've had on a Blaupunkt.

Where would I find the make and model, there is nothing obvious on the radio apart from the buttons and the phrase "R.D.S Diversity" above the LCD screen?

If there's nothing on the front, you'd have to pop it out of the dash and have a look for a sticker with the info.

Or maybe take a photo of the front and upload it for someone to identify.

OK didn't manage to get the radio out so here is a picture if anyone can ID it I would be grateful.

It's not quite so important now as we will be taking my girlfriend's new Golf 1.4TSi, should be interesting to drive a car with both a turbo and a supercharger. Haven't got this one yet though.

Anyway would still like to reset the radio for when I do need it.

Hi OwenP

This is the Peugeot Audio 4050 - picture matches exactly as per my Peugeot Audio 405, 4030 - 4050 manual !!

FULL version as per manual

ACTIVATING THE UNIT

The unit will not be active until the unique code number is entered in memory. The following procedure will be necessary each time the battery or the radio has been disconnected:-

Press the ON (on/off) button

CODE IN flashes

Enter your code with buttons numbered 1 - 6. Your radio will be activated automatically if the correct number has been entered.

CODE ERROR

The radio will lock and the word SECURITY displayed for 2 mins
It will then be possible to try again provided that 4 numbers are entered.

IMPORTANT: after 3 code errors, the radio will lock for 2 hours. To clear, leave the radio and ignition switched on during this period.

FLASHING CODE INDICATOR

When activated, starts, flashing whenever the ignition is switched off.

It can be cancelled or activated at will simply by maintaining pressure on the "BAND" button for more than 2 seconds with the ignition switched off.

Hope this helps.

Kevin

Hi Kevin

It looks like a Phillips radio that PSA used a lot of during the late 1990's.
During that period Phillips changed the 4 digit number entry system.
Can you check your handbook and post any detailed instructions for the number entry you have.

The reason why this is important is that for the original system the radios were coded with numbers in the range 0000 to 9999 and you have to enter a number using the number 1 key on the keypad then alter that number with one of the double arrow keys until the correct number was displayed, repeating this until the correct 4 digits were showng on the display.
I think this caused a lot of confusion and problems so after a few years they change production to a system of numbers in the range 1111 to 6666 with simple direct entry from the key pad.

Cheers guys that sounds like the right radio, does that 2 hours have to be continuous or can it be split?

Self explanatory I would have thought!

But I would leave it switched on for the full 2 hours as stated and then once code accepted and radio works you can then test whether or not it has to be continuous or split!!

Have fun!!

If you switch off the ignition while waiting for the security reset then the time delay restarts from zero. These radios take 2 separate 12 volt feeds one direct from the battery and one fron the ignition.

OK I now have the radio working again, it seems to reset after about 1 hour 45mins, However don't turn off the radio by mistake like I did as that also resets the timer. Oh well at least that was one good bit out of a horrendous drive the last two days.
