French music question...

Post by vince »

Hi guys,

As a fan of retro french cars and films (and some modern ones for that matter) I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of some good old style french music. The kind i mean is as per this video link to Youtube.
Any suggestions?....

If you p.m. me your address I'll send you a dvd with a couple of hundred French tracks. Including a few real classics such as "Un homme et une femme"

Possibly of some interest:

Bonjour Mr Aznavour
Friday 22 May
7:00pm - 7:30pm
BBC Radio 2

FromRadio Times reviewer - Jane Anderson:-
QUOTE
Often described as the "Frank Sinatra of France", Charles Aznavour has enjoyed an enormous career despite his own shortness of stature. He's appeared in over 60 films, including And Then There Were None and The Tin Drum. He's been asked to exercise his exotic Gallic vocal tones for just about everyone who's held high office around the world. He's composed around a thousand songs and sold over a hundred million records. By this stage his global super-status is sounding rather irritating, but, as presenter Petula Clark reveals in this series, Monsieur Aznavour has worked damn hard to get this good. It is also interesting to learn of his political commitments: he was born in Paris to Armenian immigrant parents and has used his wealth to found the Aznavour for Armenia charity since the devastating earthquake of 1988. This is one huge story to tell and the series would have benefitted from being longer.

The soundtrack on the original post is C'est Ma Vie by the Italian-Belgian singer-songwriter Salvatore Adamo
or just Adamo for short. It dates from around 1975. Here it is used to celebrate another popular model from the fifties and sixties with a much admired chassis:

The melody and tempo of the tune reminds me of Gentle on my Mind by John Hartford 1968 and which became a huge hit for Glen Campbell.

Julien Clerc ---

Julien has a special connection with Citroen. His was the voice behind the J'aime J'aime J'aime series of TV adverts for the Citroen BX back in the eighties.
