Radio reception!

Unread post by tahrey »

My Megane's radio signal strength is bobbins, is this typical or does it indicate something's wrong with the aerial, and can it be easily fixed?

Can't even reliably hold on to national or immediately-local BBC stations, and there's obvious noise. I've made sure they're properly tuned, tried using all three FM pseudo-bands, switched the different RDS & tuning options in and out etc. It keeps either jumping to other (just as bad or even weaker!) stations right up the other end of the waveband, randomly skipping up or down by a few tenths of a Mhz, or even choosing to give me local stations from 2 or 3 counties away instead of from my own region. What the heck is going on?

Unscrew the antenna and look for corrosion. It may be possible to clean it up and apply a thin film of Vaseline to hold it at bay.

Otherwise water ingress into the antenna base could be responsible.

Some of the antenna bases are powered, check for a 12v supply at the base.
