XM's....
Is there such an XM as a mk2(IE steering wheel airbag) estate 2.1td manual exclusive with the bosch mechanical pump or is it only the mk1's that had mech pumps???
The xantia back seats are getting a bit small with the kiddy seats in the back as well so need a bigger back seat for comfort on the longer trips now and with a summer holiday coming up the estate is definately the choice to have with 2 young ens

Manual 2.1's in s2 guise are rarer than a sensible Banker and rarer still if
you want it in an estate bodyshell - just speak to PeterN who has made life
even more difficult for himself because he wants a silver one!!
You may wait a lifetime for the car you've set out for here...
AFAIK, the s2's only used Lucas not Bosch pumps and don't run on funny
diesel but that's something I have a personal aversion to having got a

Hi KP
Why do you want a MK2? finding one to your spec as Andrew has said could be tricky there's no need to make it harder for yourself by concentrating soley on the 2, they rust and dont look as good as the 1, you know i dont mean it really all you MK 2 owners .
But seriously there are arguements for and against each model, reliability should not come into it though.

No no no Dean, S2s are the best
There is a S1 2.1 estate on ebay at the moment for £199, cant go wrong at that price!
A good S2 estate takes some finding, the chances of it being a 2.1 manual is very very slim! Have you considered 2.5s? They are more popular, but again, they are getting in short supply.

Thanks Dean.
I got to drive it for the first time today
Took it for a cambelt kit & water pump this morning, then onto the MOT garage ...
Where it was all going great, emissions were superb, the tester was amased with the condition under the car etc etc. However it came to the brake test, all worked fine (we had fitted new front pads and gave both front and rear brakes a good clean out etc) .... until .... the handbrake cable snapped
Although when i got it home i found the cables going to the brakes were fine and working. It was the cable from the foot pedal itself had popped off for some reason. Its back on now and seems fine, no idea why it came out
So ill take it back tomorrow for them to test the brakes again, then it should be road going 8)
Its only a short drive to the MOT place, about 2 miles, but it really drives nice, much much more lively than the automatic too.
There are still a few things to do, gearbox oil change, hydraflush and new LHM, and then needs the bumper and mirror scuffs doing and it should be almost concours. 8)
Going to wait to get the Tax for the start of next month, cant wait

Im just after leather in it more than anything and also hydractive which i believe are only available as standard on the exclusive or was an option(the leather) in the vsx trim? and that the mk1's dont come with drivers airbag's iirc??
The one on ebay looks good enough for a punt at £199 but then i'd still have to find a leather trim(hens teeth per chance??) and then get it fitted one weekend....

You could just fit a Bosch pump to a S2.
I had a 2.1 VSX Manual S2. Lovely engine, pulled well, easy (ish) to work on and get parts. Whereas the 2.5, pulled like a train, absolute pain to work on and parts if you can get them are expensive, even used.
I found the ride in the estate to be disappointing after a hatch, not as cosseting.
Steve.

You know, having four can cause an really bad imbalance in the universe, I think for the safety of us all, you should pass one my wayPeter.N. wrote:I have four Mk2s and they all have Bosch pumps. The secret is to get one registered in Jan '96 or before. I think that the 2.1 with a Bosch pump is the best engine in the world but it has to have a manual gearbox.

And the Xm has passed its MOT just need to get the tax now.
All Xms have hydractive, KP. S1 cars have Hydractive1, which is in sports mode all of the time (when selected) the S2 cars (and late S1 - S1.5) have hydractive 2, which only cuts into sports when its needed.
So you get a comfy ride, but then on cornering it tightens up to give you less body roll and a more involving drive. You dont really notice the change from normal to sport, its seamless. Hydractive makes a big difference to handling, something the 2.0 C5s really miss out on
All S2 cars have a drivers air bag, most have a passenger 'bag too. However some early S2 cars did without the passenger air bag. I dont think any S1 cars have air bags though.
Not sure which models got ABS, but most S2 cars do.

Chris, do yourself a favour and buy a nice s1!! You may even like it.
You'll discover a 'sport' or 'auto' switch here too and find the car is every
bit as supple as a s2 - the parameters of engaging sport are actually
numbed back on the s2 that's all with both s1 and s2 switching
automatically between sport and normal. To say s1's are always in sport
is wrong; only accurate in some cases where the electrovalves are all
at sea and the car runs with a rigid ride.
I'd say get yourself a s1 or 1.5 - you'll like it and there won't be an airbag
in sight so the dash will be visually better and more in keeping with the
exterior styling rather than wadges of blobby plastic!
Xac, I hope I'm not imbalancing the Universe too much then being the
custodian of a few dozen Xm's!!

I think my three and Jim's four help redress the balance of the citroen gravity well you're creating Andrew!
Course, you could send a nice XM diesel my way too... I'm sure my neighbours won't mind me taking up even more space in the road
