Xantia power steering rack boot

Unread post by mickeybo »

here i have my Xantia sensation she is 1999 with an 1.9 TD engine... some time's the p/steering works and some time's its very hard 2 turn, if the rubber boot was busted on the steering rack (gater) would this stop the power steering 4m working some times:?:

No, the power steering has enough force to mash a boot without noticing it.
Even then, the heavy steering would only be in the one ‘mashing’ direction.
What you have is loss of flow from the pump, most likely caused by a loose drive belt.

From the look of the wheels, they may be rubbing inside the wheel arches, or somewhere further inside.
Be aware that such large wheels cause the speedo to indicate a lower speed than you’re doing. Image

Is it just hard to turn or do you feel pulsing when turning?

With tyres of that profile, I'd make very sure that the strut tops are OK too - there's not much to isolate them from the shock of bumps in the road!

The wheels r clearing the arch's fine they dont seem 2 rub... i put the low profile tyre on so it would clear ok, the p/steering only happens wen u turn the wheel over to the driver side... thier is like a wee light pulse wen turning but wen i turn it to the p/side it steers ok... the boot is busted on the nearside if any more info would b great thanks :?:
