Hello all, i am a proud owner of an 05 Reg Citroen C5 1.6 HDI VTR Tourer. I was browsing through the owners manual and saw the navidrive system that the higher spec models come with.
I have come to realise that you can infact use this navidrive system and hard drive for a whole host of different uses - especially with the mp4 jack installed in the glove box. I now see it as my mission to get this system into my C5 - somehow. Is there anything else i will have to do other than the below to achieve this ?? - Or is there anyone out there who has done this before without having to buy the dash for the screen housing ??
1. Buy Colour screen and wiring
2. Buy uprated stereo and wiring & MP4 Jack in glove box
3. Buy new dash for larger screen housing
How do i get navidrive in my C5

I imagine it would be very hard. I know there are several types of navidrive head unit and different displays.
I think someone on http://www.eurovan2.com/ managed to retrofit the navidrive.
I have the navidrive in my 2006 C5 VTX+, it is good, but not worth paying £1500 for. Most people would say just buy a decent portable satnav.

Currently driving a 2004 C5 VTR (old shape) and an Electric Kia Soul. Sorry but the electric one is my favourite!

Wouldnt be impossible but you would need a lot of time & money, you would need all the stuff that you said but the wiring would be part of the complete interior wiring harness. You would also need a bit of reprograming done with a citroen diagnostic computer. All the parts are very expensive if you go for new parts, the RT4 radio unit itself is around £1400 if I remember right. If you go down the 2nd hand parts route parts from a mk1 & 2 C5 are not interchangeable. I reckon a base model tomtom Is still better than the navidrive navigation system & a fraction of the price.

The main reason i want to do it is because when you install the MP3 jack into the Glovebox, you can plug a smart phone in and can see the phone screen through the cars colour screen display. Meaning that you can watch films from your phone in your car.
You could also store lots of music onto the harddrive as it has plenty of memory to do so. The kids would absolutely love this.
Im always going to go down the 2nd hand parts route, ideally from a stoved in C5 VTX+, Yet it is difficult finding a specialist breakers yard, does anyone know of any ?? doesnt matter in whereabouts in the country !!
Thanks for the replies guys - Paul

My 2006 C5 VTX+ does not have a hard drive, but does have input jacks in the glove box and a 6 disc changer. You need to have the CD Rom in the main head unit when doing sat nav.
It is impossible to see all 4 corners of the screen, and the video input shuts off when you drive the car.
For video on the move you would be better with portable DVD's on the headrests. It is illegal to have video in the front of the car when driving.

Reply @ steve steel city - wouldnt this then render the trip computer and auto lights useless ?? - i admit i have hardly used the menus since buying the car, and a quick trundle through them seems to tell me they are pretty useless??
This option now appears to be the strongest way forward - have you fitted one in your C5, have you experienced any teething problems regarding the access to the trip computer ?
Thanks
Paul

You can get around that problem of the video going off when the car is driving - but i reckon you already know that.
The car i have must of had a disc changer in at some point - as under my seat is a space and a lead coming out of the floor - can i use this for any other means - seeing as cd seems to be on its way out now ?
Anything you know - or anyone knows would be of help

Hi,
I can't say for sure because my C5 is an older model but I don't see how replacing the head unit would affect such 'body functions'. On mine at least such funtions are carried out by the appropriate ECUs. I fitted a replacement head unit but not a display type, this didn't affect anything except the steering wheel controls and there was no central display of stereo functions on the built in screen. Steering wheel adapter can be bought to interface aftermarket head units if you require this.
When fitting my Alpine unit I sourced a permanent 12V, this was needed because the eco mode on the car was wiping the stereos settings.
Hope that helps.
Steve.
