help needed renault megane
i have a renault megane 1.4 on a r 98 plate when starting i have to turn and hold the key for a while you can hear it turning over and eventually it starts then after starting it stays running for a couple of minites then cuts out. it then starts again but only if i hold the key for a while, also when driving it judders when stopping at junctions it idles for a couple of seconds then cuts out. as i go to pull away sometimes it will pull away fine other times with a judder or just cuts out. i have replaced the air filter and spark plugs used redex in the petrol replaced the rotor arm. has anyone any ideas what could be causing these problems as i am a mobile care assistant for the elderly and disabled and need my car to visit these people in their own homes.

Hi
I bought a Megane 1st Reg 2002, 6 montns ago and 2 weeks ago it started juddering and there was a smell of burning from the back of the car. I got the car to a garage immediately and it's the ECU I live in France so have had to have a new one fitted at a cost of 780 Euros but in the UK you can have your unit repaired at half the cost. A garage will be test if this is your problem and if it is then do a search on the Internet for ECU for Renault and loads of sites come up.
Good luck.

re: cutting out problem
check the servo hose from the brake servo to see if it is split or anything like that, it will cause stalling problems, failing that it could be an ignition switch fault as you say you are having to hold it in the cranked position to keep running, hope this helps
renaults are lovely cars
