ring on the driveshaft broke today getting new one of a chap on e-bay are these common for breaking or have i just been unlucky?

I don't know if it's common but it's far from unheard of. It happened on my Xantia.

Did you manage to get the ring on its own or did you have to get a whole CV joint?

mines just broke (well the car's my dads) i was gonna weld the old one up and refit it but after reading this i'll get a new on......... saves the hassle

but my question is ......... at the moment as soon as you turn the key it flashes up ABS fault .... now i assume it has that in the ecu memory so what will happen when i fit the new one

will it need the memory clearing or will it clear it's self just by driving

oh 1 more thing what are they like to fit

just knock it on or does it need to be heat up/shrunk on

Hi Luke

Make sure you clean all the rust on the driveshaft put the ring in the oven for about 10 mins just to warm through (sounds like a recipe) and just slide it on you may have to use a hammer

the light should just go off now that the circuit is complete

depending what side your are doing mind you do not pull the driveshaft out of the gearbox (very messy)

just to let you know fitted fine - just warmed it with a blow torch and knocked it on and it did indeed remove the warning light once it was driven
