Possible damage to Xantia hydraulic circuit

Unread post by addo »

OK, you can all laugh at this one.

I swapped front brake rotors and pads the other week at a mate's workshop.

Before realising we needed to crack the bleed screws, we'd wound in one side until it leaked LHM past the handbrake actuating "post".

Subsequent to the brake job, the initial startup/pressurisation is taking about 50% longer before the siren/light goes off. Brakes are good and squeal free - if a little grabby - but show no signs of ongoing fluid loss or contamination.

Any suggestions on what I may have done? Wondering if I've stuffed a distribution valve.

Thanks, Adam.

Squeeze the rubber cap that is on the back of the caliper, which the post comes out of, if it squirts out LHM, then the seal's gone.
Happened on Cassy's NS, replaced the caliper with a good one for £35 from a scrappy.

Well, I tested the accumulator sphere today. 42 Bar, and new last May (aftermarket). :? Regassed it to 62 Bar, and the reg is back to normal.

What I am thinking, is we built up so much pressure winding the piston back that some gas was driven from the accumulator sphere. Maybe Martin (Pleiades) could comment on this!

Regards, Adam.

i agree with xac if the rubber boot on the rear of the calliper has LHM in it, the seal has definatly gone west
