405 headlight help

Post by ciderheadz1 »

I have to replace both headlights on my 94 405 est. What is the quickest way to get them out? I dont want to have to take more off than necessary and it looks like the bumper may have to come off.Would that be correct?

The picture below shows a drivers side (R.H.D.) headlamp from a 405, and if it's mounted in the same way as an Xantia then it will have three main mounting screws.

On the Xantia you have to remove the main side indicators, and a trim that sits under the headlamp which is plastic, and body colour.

So with the Xantia you do not have to remove the front bumper, and most cars are similar therefore not making the job bigger than it needs to be.

The 405 was the also made by PSA, and therefore it cant be too different to the Xantia in this area.

According to my haynes:

Disconnect wires, adjuster etc
Remove the indicator
Remove the radiator grill panel
Remove the little bit of trim under the headlight
You can then remove the 2 securing bolts and withdraw the headlight.

Out of curiosity, how much did you pay for new ones? Mine are very dull and I think could do with replacing.

in GSF's 06 catalouge there are three diferant head lamps listed, if they still do them and price might be slightly up/down now,

single beam 92-95 T94224/5 £38.50 + (-expletive removed-)
" " " " hydraulic level T94220A/21A £26.50 " "
