2004 Citroe C5 2.0HDi 138, any issues i need to know of?

Post by Citroenmad »

Hi,

Im looking at getting a C5, ive found one i like, i have test driven it but im going back tomorrow for a longer drive. All being well ill probably have it.

Ive been trying to do some digging around to find faults with this engine, but cant seem to find too many related threads.

So, does anyone know of any faults which effect the 2.0HDi 138?

I know the 2.2 has problems with the FAP filters etc, and i believe the 2.0 138 also has a fap filter? Would i get similar issues?

Ive also read that the 138 has a dry single plate clutch, does this mean Citroen have done away with the DMF on the later C5s?

I dont know if im doing the right thing or not buying this :?

Thanks for your help, Chris.

The alternative to "dry" is a wet (i.e. oil immersed) clutch, not many cars have them.
The alternative to "single plate" is "multi-plate", again not many cars have them.

The DMF is here to stay I'm afraid.

Mine is the facelifted 05 version.
I've had a couple of issues when the antipolution system faulty warning came up - fixed in warrenty by changing sensors and a rear suspension strut replaced when the car decided it was a real citroen & dropped overnight. Since it is an estate version I've also had the problem with the rear window not opening.
Certainly a reliable and reasonably quick car.
