I seem to spend my life explaining to ebay sellers where it is so I do know
this one off by heart.

Engine bay bulkhead on driver's side near offside strut top/sphere in white
stencilled digits 1.5" high lettering (usually white or black dependent on car
colour) then ending in CR for saloon or MR estate like so:

I've found an identical colourmatch between the two if the first part of the
code matches. S2's sometimes have an additional letter in the paint code too.

I could probably even guess what code yours is if you say it's a dark green s1!!
The RP Replacement Parts number unique to the car is above in 4 yellow
numbers!! :P

As above.

My MkII doesn't have it there though, so if you can't find it there - look on the drivers A pillar for a sticker. It's on there.

Excellent, ill have a look tomorrow. Same style lettering as on my old ax!

The reason i ask this is the colour code in the service book is etwcr. The car is dark grey metallic. Went down halfords for a touch up pen & the bloke mixed one up, it came out black. I reckon he was crap at mixing up paint personally but just want to check to be sure.

I know that colour well - I've got x2 Xm's and a Xantia that colour
- nice isn't it :D

A sort of cold bluey gunmetal charcoal grey - (very scientific colour
decription = as if!!) :P Actually, quite rare on a Xantia: I've never
seen another. Black is totally wrong; it's far lighter in shade. Have
words in Halfords; hope you tried paint on test surface not the car
first...

No. I don't 'do' funeral cars!!

Fact - Halfords and other small places offering a paint mixing service havent got a clue about what they are doing. Its also very expensive. For the cost of the materials for a custom mix, primer and consumables, your getting on for £25-30 quid. I'm biased of course, as i do proper repairs using high quality Standox water-based paints for not much more.

If you have a 2000 MY Xantia the paint code may well be on the drivers side A pillar just below the check strap.

Storm Grey? I once had an Activa in that colour, now Gareth's (Xantiaman583). It's one of those colours that looks really horrible when dull and dirty but once polished really does look fantastic. I never liked it until garteh worked his magic on it.. It has a real depth to it.

Ford Zircon Blue is a reasonable match if you need to do a bit of an emergency touch-up.

That is one of the codes where the formulation changed, so if you buy touch-up paint from the dealer, you need to give the year as well as the code. If you buy paint from anywhere else, there is a 50% chance that it is the wrong one. My recollection is that the earlier formulation is a lighter and bluer grey. My Mk1 V6 is that code (the darker version) colour.
