Hi, recently with my 2001 Renault megane 1.6 16v, the brakes are starting to play up. When i brake very gently they seem fine, but if i brake quite hard as in to come to a stop for a junction etc, the car sort of judders as if im tapping the brakes in an on/off action. I have been told it could be a warped disc but some one has said they don't think so as if it was the brake pedal would move as well, but it doesn't. Also, particularly at high speeds (70mph), if i brake to slow down quite quickly or even just to slow down to take a motorway exit, the steering column vibrates very badly, as well as the brakes doing their on/off thing.
Any ideas as to what the problem could be?
Any help greatly appreciated!

hi, I have exactly the same problem with my V6.. the nearside disc is seemingly warped. (there is a small vid in the 406 blog)
I used to think heat caused this, but seems unlikely..
it's a pain, and makes braking very annoying.. my discs are £100 plus
I want to prove that it is the disc and not the hub the disc runs on.. will know more at the weekend..
My brake pedal doesnt move at all when this happens, but the car shakes in sympathy
