Can you change the inner CV boot easily or a sealed unit?

Laguna. 1.9DTi. 1999 estate manual, ABS. Inner offside drivers side boot has shredded. Can it be replaced? I noticed the boot has indentations which fit the outer joint circumference and is not circular, imagine a circle with three inner curves around the circumference. Can it be dismantled easily? The shaft joint is good, shame to spend £90 for the sake of a new boot? And is the boot available as after market supply?

You can get stretchy boots that are fitted by pushing them over a cone. I've never tried them but I understand they are quite good.

Another alternative is a split boot kit. They are fitted with the shaft in situ, then glued together. I tried one on an outer CV and it wasn't much use but it might be better on an inner joint, because the inner joint doesn't have to bend so much. If you do use a split boot it's important to keep the mating faces free of grease.

Thanks for that. My experience of those split boot kits is that you are better chucking them in the bin prior to starting the job. What I need to know is the end of the shaft is it removable as it enters the gearbox?

It's easy to do, remove the shaft, then remove the CV and the tripod bearings, slide the boot on, refit the tripod, slide it into the CV then fit the boot.
