xantia central locking not working

Xantia laid up for MOT work etc and I took the battery off for charging as alarm eats battery over time. Usual siren/lights flashing as I removed battery & later refitted-stopped siren by pressing button on dash.
But now remote/key central locking not working, although pressing down a locking button from inside car works.
Any ideas?

Further to my post a little earlier,
about 90 mins after refitting battery & resetting siren, for no known reason,the siren sounded for about 20 secs and then stopped!

Any ideas??

I get this sometimes, I imagine its a fault with the ultrasonic sensors.
These can be switched off using the alarm silencing button on the dash...can't remember how exactally though!

But more worrying is the central locking problem. The remote plip doesn't work now, using the key(key turns in lock as usual) doesn't work now either. Locking system worked fine a few months ago before I laid car up for MOT work!!

Any ideas?

John, it could be a combination of problems...
Does the central locking work from the key on the passengers side?
If it does, it proves that something is up regarding the sender unit on the drivers door.
The remote plip could just be a dead battery. When both mine went dead, I replaced them with the CR2032's that are used on PC motherboards for the BIOS. Can be bought in places like Boots chemist and Maplin. Car boot sales with trade stands are also good for these

You can test your plips by pressing the buttons whilst looking through a digital photo/video camera and seeing the infrared.
After replacing the batteries, you may need to reprogramme them, this is detailed in the forum...somewhere...

One last thing, is yours a Series 1 or 2 Xantia? The last point about the battery/reprogramming will be different for the S2.

I didn't try key on the passengers side-bit fed up with the Xantia-I'll try that tomorrow(Sat).
Remote plip batteries were replaced in the last 12 months.
I've updated my profile to show Mk 1 Xantia.
