Hi folks, am i correct in saying that there's a difference in the strut tops on a 2.0 Mk1 petrol and a 1,9 VSXtd ? , the reason for my enquiry is that my "local" scrappy has a 2.0 petrol Xantia which he says has new strut tops, i haven't seen the car but i will be going next Sat..
My Xant is a VSXtd, so if there's a difference they are no use to me, but what i was proposing to do was buy them anyway ,and then there's a pair of struts available for any forum member if they want them.
I don't want to fork out for them and be out of pocket for ages , but in view of the strut situation as it is i just thought it may be beneficial to grab them, any thoughts or comments please
Cheers Paul...........
P.S. are strut tops "handed" or will they fit either side ?

Paul, you're right - strut tops are 'handed' as each side points the sphere slightly into the middle of the engine bay.
Its worth picking them up as they are a dealer only part at the moment costing around £100 a side
VSX Hydractive strut tops have the wider LHM pipes, whereas the spec models below with standard suspension have the thinner (3mm?) pipes.

Hi Paul
I don't know for certain whether the tops are different or not between a Mk1 petrol and your VSX - but I would be surprised if they are different. I'm pretty sure (from reading posts on the subject) that strut tops are handed.
Bravo for your public-spirited offer to grab them anyway. If you're not too far away from me (Glos) and your scrappy didn't charge silly money, I'll gladly buy them if you don't want them.

Hi again, thanks for all the info, it appears the're not going to be suitable for my VSXtd. the price i was quoted was £30 each so if they're as described ( new) thats a good buy, i'll get them anyway.
Guy , i'm based in Lincoln, you have 1st shout on them if you want them let me know , if you're not interested i'll put them on the for sale section at cost price.
thanks again Paul.......

Thanks for the additional advice Mike , i'll give them a good check over, if they are as the scrappy says (new) there should be no issues , if however theres any doubt i'll give them a miss.
I'm doing the discs and pads on mine tomorrow, so i'll check my strut tops as well
Cheers Paul...........
