Gearbox problem 2005 (55) Laguna 1.9dci Initiale

Hi Guys,

Having a problem with my Laguna. Gearchanges are becoming very clunky. Particularly 2nd into 3rd & 1st into second. It is much worse when cold but still eveident when it is warm.

I have had two opinions from Renault dealers after test drives. One said the synchro rings had gone and that I need a replacement gearbox (no individual parts available) the other said that they would change the gearbox oil first & check the gearbox cables and then go from there. This dealer said that the PK6 gearbox was known to be fairly clunky anyway, but having had a 2003 Laguna for 3 years without this issue I am very dissapointed that it is showing itself on a the facelift model.

The car has done higher than average miles @78k but has been fully renault maintained from new. I have parts warranty cover for another 1.5 months, but potentially am looking at a hefty labour bill, although I have found a local independant specialist that will be half the labour cost of main dealer.

I would value your opinions / advice or if you have had similar issues yourself I would appreciate any help you could give me.

It does sound like worn synchros, and although Renault "won't" sell you the parts, an indipendant gearbox specialst should be able to help.

Try changing the oil and adding the likes of molyslip.

The saga continues and wanted to see if anyone had an idea of where to go next as I am still getting bad changes (Grating) when cold, particularly into 3rd. It gets much better when hot, after about 20 minutes of driving it dissapears pretty much, but I would say the gearbox is at best notchy in 2nd, 3rd & 4th, 5th is smooth & 6th is supersmooth

In short have done the following,

1) New synchros 1st, 2nd 3rd & 4th, together with associated bearings etc, new gear oil
2) New Clutch kit, Slave cylinder & Dual mass flywheel (changed as massive play in it)

Changes into 5th & 6th have always been ok. Master cylinder appears fine, no pedal play or leakage etc.
