Xantia Front bumper trim knocked off

Post by wrinklet1 »

Hi, well, today the front bumper of our xantia mkII was hit, not hard, but hard enough to knock off the front passenger side over rider trim. The part that is painted on a mkII and black on a mkI xantia. Cirtroen call this the bumper rubber boot on prnet.
I have the part, BUT, all the lugs are broken off!!!!,
So, what I want to know is, how to re attach it ideally without any visible fixings (ie screws etc).
Does anyone have any ideas please? Duck tape holding the chrome trim on at the moment.

Paul

It's polyethylene or polypropylene - neither responds well to many glues, but can be heat welded.

Surely the replacement bits are cheap enough?

I doubt it is cheap to buy from citroen. and then it will need to be painted too!!!!!
What about using expanding foam to do the job? Tape it to the car the squirt foam into the cavity????

Double sided tape of the automotive type, would work better. You'd need to beg a few inches off a panel shop, as the 3M roll is costly.

Foam is mostly a void filler - not a bonding agent.

Sometimes the "sacrificial" repair parts aren't that dear - insurers tend to get narky if the factories pump the cost on commonly damaged exterior bits. Maybe Gareth could paint a set and mail them your way?

I'm a believer in maintaining good cosmetic appearances, as if you ever need to claim against another party's insurer, it shows reasonable precedent.

Regards, Adam.
