Xantia pollen filter

Hi all
Just a quick question........

Were all Xantias fitted with a pollen filter or just those that had A/C

Looking at the service site all the info on the blower motors both with and without A/C show the same housing and channelling for the air to heater(?) panel so i assumed they would all have a filter regardless of if they were needed or not if follow my train of thought

The more i think about this i come to the conclusion that all Xantias must have a pollen filter.

It has to housed either before the blower motor or between the blower and the main vent ducting otherwise all known debris would be blown all through the cabin

If it was housed before the blower then the only logical place would be directly above it under the windscreen scuttle but that would leave it open to the elements.....bad idea

So it has to be housed after the blower ie where we all know it to be on the cars fitted with A/C

I think the assumtion has been to say it needs a filter only to stop the evaporator getting clogged in the A/C equipped cars whereas it has either a dual purpose or there is another filter somewhere in the A/C system

But i have been known to be totally wrong in the past

I always rather naiivly took it to be for hay fever sufferers to stop them sneezing and crashing while indisposed.
Or another reason to add a couple of hundred quid to the sale price

I am fairly sure that the fan and housing are different on non-A/C cars, and these have no provision for a pollen filter.

BTW, I must give a plug for Puravent filters, which have a charcoal layer that really does cut out pollen and fumes (I suffer from pollen allergies).

I have had a look on the citroen site and yes the blowers are different but i think that has more to do with the control module rather then the blower itself.
The one thing that seems constant in both A/C and non A/C cars is the ducting from the blower housing that runs under the glovebox.They all show a pollen filter and filter plug

I cant seem to find the part number for the ducting

but i cant see why they would have changed that to suit non A/C cars when the blower itself is changed albeit in my opinion just the control module

Someone must have a non A/C equipped Xantia on the forum who can delve under the carpet

Oh yes Citroen list the blower as an Air Puller which i suppose is technically correct as thats what it does

Left picture is from my VIN with air conditioning; right is from Mk I without aircon, where item 5 are the fan speed control resistors as used in non-aircon cars.

My non-aircon '93 Mk1 is showing up as having a pollen filter on the Citroen service site.

I'll have a look in the footwell tomorrow to verify. If I get a chance.. 8)

My recollection is that the pollen filter mounts in the housing that contains th A/C evaporator, and on non A/C cars, the duct that replaces this housing is not big enough to house a filter. The lack of a pollen filter was the main reason I got rid of my first (non A/C) Xantia.

Thanks to Ross_K for posting this picture that I couldn’t get because it said ‘error on page’.
Ross’s picture shows the electronically controlled blower with the transistor drive.
The pollen filter does slide in front of the evaporator.
Hope to have added to the confusion.

To make things even less clear sevice site is showing my Xantia 1998 mk1 with A/C as this

This is the Valeo version

And this is the Bero version

Hope thats as clear as mud now

Can’t go exploring now,

but if you search for your own car by VIN number at top left, there is only one drawing coming up.
Yours must have the same as mine, and my VIN number is:
