Woman in Need of Help!

Hi

I have a Renault Clio 04 plate. A few weeks ago my interior light started coming on on its own and then recently the 'door open' sign started coming on without a door being open.

Now both my key fobs have stopped working.

I took it to a Renault dealer who have advised that it is going to cost £400 to fix and take 2 days.

Any idea what they are going to do?

I would appreciate any advice.

Probably replace the door switches.

My guess would be, one of the door switches (which IIRC are on the opposite end to where the hinges are, and easily get snagged and pulled out), has failed/dropped out. This is telling the system the door is open so it is refusing to unlock/lock.

How long did the dealer have it to come up with this (2day £400) diagnosis?

tried all four switches, all seem to work ok? any other ideas, thanks

Broken wires in the loom where the door hinges.

While a DIY fix would be to repair the individual broken wires by splicing in new pieces it wouldn't be acceptable for a professional repair, they will be charging for stripping out the loom and replacing it with a new one.
Could take a while but the price does seem to be on the high side.

It may be worth getting a quote from a reputable auto-electrician, preferably one who is known to you or to your friends. If the dealer bodges the fix you have some come-back, an independent, not so much.
