emisions check

help.christmas night and my service light came on with little pic of an engine and an emisions warning!does anyone have any ideas what might be the cause?is it possible to reset the fault code without the relevant diagnostics and where is the plug for the diagnostics on a 2005 grand scenic?any info would be great.kev t

sorry its the 1.6 petrol.2005 grand scenic.
