Laguna II Rear View Mirror

Unread post by sparky33 »

Hi guys, recently bought a 2002 (51) Laguna II 1.6 Dynamique and there is something that is confusing me.

The car has an autodim rear view mirror fitted, but, either it's got the wrong mirror or the wrong windscreen.

The reason I say this, the black area of the screen is only small and dosen't cover the mirror surround, but the car has duel climate so according to Haynes (which as expected tells you next to nothing about the car), there should be an humidity sensor in there (the surround) but there isn't.

I have found that there are three plugs above the headlining, one of which is grey and fits the connection to the mirror.

So does anyone know if either the mirror is wrong, the screen or maybe a cover for the casing missing?

Also, anyone any idea how the mirror is removed from the screen?

Mirrors are glued on to the windscreen glass.

"According to Haynes" is more like "on some models" to interpret Haynes correctly.
Also you should find the normal disclaimer on "typical" electric diagrams "not all items shown are fitted to all models".

OK -

What would the humidity sensor be used for - other than auto start/stop for the windscreen demister ?
The sensor would come with some sort of an electronic relay - or amplifier.

Also what I meant was that this sensor does not have to be fitted - even if mentioned by Haynes.
Its Renault - not Haynes - who decides what you get when you purchase such a piece of french art 8)

BTW : the sensor itself is usually integrated on the windscreen surface as a pair of interfering finger patterns. This in turn is connected by way of surface wiring connected to some sort of spring contacts somewhere on the edge of the windscreen.
The finger pattern should be directly visible, whereas the wiring may well be hidden under a black surface layer.

I'm trying to establish whether or not the car is meant to have this mirror or a standard one.

Haynes shows the sensor in the mirror surround and says it's a part of the climate control system, as is the sun sensor on the front of the dashboard.

And there is no point in patronising me

, I'm not new to all this, just this particular vehicle!

The mirror casing that holds the sensor (if it was there) is "open" to be seen as the black area of the screen is too small to cover the area of the housing, please read my initial question.

Just a thought, is the windsreen fitted still the original? couple of telltales will be the word Renault in the manufacturers blurb somewhere on the glass and if it has the glass etching to match the other windows. I would like to think the correct glass had been fitted originally. May/maynot help but you can get a Renault print out from a dealer that lists all the kit your Renault left the factory with. There is also a second list that gives the engine and gearbox details as well...Dave

Cheers for the reply, I had considered that the wrong windscreen was fitted as a replacement, can't say I've noticed any writing just the airbag symbols.

I's odd they have decided to glue the mirrors to the screen rather than retaining the clip on types of previous models.

I thought of contacting Renault to ask what it was built with, but always found dealers less than helpful uinless you were spending.

I used to be a VW driver and they can tell you everything including dealer fit extras from the chassis number.

I had the windscreen replaced on my last Lag2 and noticed that the replacement screen didn't have the word Renault written in the blurb somewhere down near the bottom edge I recall. You would be able to see if you have the same code etched on your windows. If you have access to dialogys that can give you a pretty good idea of what your car has from the oval plate (sticker on the drivers post between the doors). As for the Renault list I'd just go into a dealer to make some service price enquiry and ask for a printout. I just know either the screen or the mirror is wrong, just can't work out which, but i think it's more likely the screen.

Spotted a Lag today with the small black area and the auto mirror, seems there is a cover missing.
