electrics

Unread post by louise1509 »

I have a 1.9 scenic dynamique on an 05 plate. Recently the warning light has come on several times telling me to stop the car and all the lights go off and all trip switches are set back to zero, clck included. The engine does not cut out and I can continue driving. The instrument panel is only off for about 2 seconds in total. I have had it at my local renault dealer who put it on their diagnostic machine and no fault has shown.
Please can ayone give me any ideas as to what this problem could be?
Thanking you in advance. Louise

That sounds like some sort of electrical problem....or it could be the instrument cluster (Clocks) failing as Renault's seem to suffer a lot from this problem.
The symptoms of a cluster fault differ & not every fault will follow the same route, but the fact that the trip counter etc are resetting does point to a cluster fault.
Quite often cluster faults will only be present when the clocks are cold ....once warmed up everything starts working again.

I believe Renault charge upwards of £500 for a new instrument cluster fitted......If you have a warranty on the car see if this covers the fault.

Take a look here for descriptions of cluster faults on Renault's...

Hi, look at my relpy to renault megane scenic/lights out. This should explain it.
Yes, your instrument panel is on the way out. It will progresively get worse then in the near future it will stop working all together.
Unfortunately there is a high failure rate on these displays but Renault wont admit to it. I feel if everyone who had this problem all contacted watchdog on the BBC we could get them to put some pressure on them to do something about it. Individually we will get nowhere but together things might just happen.
