Xantia front wings

Post by andmcit »

Please humour me!!

There've been frequent mentions about this forum about the normal or as
I call them 'skinny' front wings and the alternative fatter or 'fuller' Activa/TCT/
2.1 and 'some' (or is it all :? ) s2 front one's.

Now I need a wing for a s1 '98 TCT estate and on my travels have had a
word with A5Dave who works with Citroen/Pugs and breaks them too.

After mentioning whether he has both kinds of wing available he must now
think I'm off my head and asking for a Xantia equivalent of tartan paint or
a long weight and I just want to make doubly sure I'm not actually losing my
marbles (the one's I've still got left anyhow!!).

I've been driven in from the rain where I was likely amusing the neighbours
(as usual!!) scrabbling about staring at the front of my various Xantiae and
if I tell myself there IS a difference on my black Activa I guess there must
be but is it all really in my mind and did I even dream about someone
mentioning wider tracks etc as per the dear old CX!! :D

It's not as if there's a difference that'd make the changes all worth the
damned effort by Citroen anyhow! Now, if it was the difference between
the wings on a mid 80's Audi Coupe versus a pukka Quattro and a boggo
924 versus a 944 I'd see there was a point to it all...

Not that I'm neurotic or anything, but this isn't some elaborate wind up and
I'm the fall guy!?  :D

Anyone care to help me with my potentially fragmenting mind!?

The VIN beneath my Vings

Is this fully fledged anxiety, or have you had your wings clipped? :P

Have you compared the P/Ns by entering the VINs on service.citroen?

Andrew, you are not going off your trolley.

There are two different width of wings, the narrower sort fitted to everything that does NOT have the ML5T gearbox or the V6 engine, and then there is the Activa, the CT estate, the HDi 110 and possibly the 2.1TD, in all their variations that has the wider wing.

The reason? :P The cars fitted with the ML5T gearbox have a wider track than everything else and so Citroen fitted a wing that has a 16mm greater flare on the wheel arch. Put two wings side by side and the difference is obvious.

It is not mark specific either, as my Activas have the wider wings, yet my 2001 estate does not.

I confirm the 2.1TD has the wider wings.

So, Andrew, spill the beans. Do you now have a TCT Estate?

According to Citroën Service all S2 Xantia's have the wider wings.

I'm not neurotic; who told you that!!??

And how does Jim know I've just got a very nice silver TCT estate...

BTW Thanks guys, I'll get the wing situation sorted somehow!!

That's all that's wrong with the car really and it'd be nice to get a new wing
as it will make a significant improvement on it from the dodgems look it
sports at the moment!!

We'll see what A5Dave comes back with in his next reply!?

Aha, Richard, you should not believe everything you read! Our Forte estate is the living (?) proof that not even Citroen know all they do. :? The wings are definitely not wider.

Andrew, sent you a PM re the wings.

Excellent :D Time to do an "Addo" on it and convert it to an Activa

A5Dave. Is he by any chance the bloke who runs A5 Slavage not a million miles from me down near Dunstable?

Are the S2 wings not different at the indicator and next to the windscreen as well as being fatter?

It seems that by accident rather than by design I've fitted a s2 nearside
front wing to my s1 Activa with happy results. I found the only noticeable
difference on the s2 wing was a tab/ear at the front leading edge that
slots into the headlight panel. It's so flimsy I snapped it off by hand work
hardening it!!

A5 Dave is just off the A1 (and A5!! ;) ) and always has interesting bits for
sale occasionally ebaying some bits. Check out his BIN lekky Xant leather
interior!

Ha! The squeeze is on! I'm trying to get one on the hoist tomorrow to start probing/photographing. Then there'll be more arguments and some mythbusting...

To verify some of the above, there are two types of front wing on a Xantia 1, with the wider ones designed to cater for the wider track; however, there is only one type of front wing (OK, before anyone says "but what about left and right?"... ) for the Mk2.

The wider Mk1 wings have been superseded by the Mk2 versions; it is possible to fit Mk2 to a Mk1, but not vice-versa! As proved by the prepped Mk1 wing we have in stock which we tried to fit to a Mk2, but found it wouldn't go on...

So there's a RHF Mk1 wide-track front wing going begging here in Lincolnshire...just needs some preparation and paint! (I'll bet that it's a left wing required...)

Thanks for the confirmation here; I'm somewhat surprised thw wing off a
s1 won't fir though, the big difference is the sidelight and bumper. I actually
need an offside wing but being a metallic silver car there's likely little chance
of getting a correct colour match without blending down the side of the car
and costing £££'s.

I've also got a totally innaproriate dark nave blue s2 wing if that's the route
I fancied taking!
