Berlingo Roof Bars (non OEM)

Post by niggle »

Hi All,

For my first post on here I just thought I would share this for those Berlingo owners who may be looking for roof bars because they don't have a Modutop set-up with the OEM ones. It occurred to me that my Berlingo Forte should be able to take any bars intended for the light commercial van as it has the same brackets in the roof channel. To this end I searched around and eventually found some on Fleabay by "Aiko" for £41.99 delivered which is a lot cheaper than Thule or the like.

Aiko website: http://www.aiko-design.co.uk/

They are very solid items which are easy enough to attach with a good
positive grip on the roof, though they are not the prettiest. They are
finished in what looks like cadmium plate so I have also dosed them
with some WD40. I have taken them off again and will only use them
when required as they do cause a moderate amount of noise at 60mph+
and will no doubt have a negative effect on fuel economy.

The bars are probably intended to be left on the vehicle all the time
and have nylock nuts on the u-bolts which will lose their anti-slip
properties after being undone and done up again a few times so I will
replace those at one end (all that is needed to allow
removal/replacement) with a nut and grip washer combination
