Accumulator noises?....

Post by vince »

Some expertise required here........

Ok, ive had the front accumulator sphere changed today due to a frequent "noise" happening every 11 seconds......since changing the sphere the noise now happens every 30 seconds.

Now i know there is a thread on here about a similar thing on someone else's Xantia, but i want to make sure that we are talking about the same noise.

Ive had a poor quality Xantia in the past and i definately heard a ticking noise from the accumulator. The noise went "tick" no surprise there...

The reason i got my current Xantia accumulator changed was due to a noise like this (bear with me here) "rrrrrrrr...ck" :D Now from reading up, this is the sound of the regulator apparently ?

My question is, is this sound indicative of a knackered accumulator or is it normal?

The reason i ask is that the car seems a tad smoother but not a great deal so now im thinking

a) Was the old accumulator ok?
b) If not, do i have another problem ontop of the accumulator? ie this bolt thing on the regulator that needs adjusting

Help me hydraulic masters

Before answering your questions, I have to say that the wellknown regulator tick from a hydraulic Citroen do have quite a few different accents

There is no absolute noise scheme on the tick.
Still - even when the sound of it is disguised somwhat by any alien accent - we all recognise it.

a) With an increase in tick interval by changing the accumulator, there is no doubt the old one was knackered.

b) No further problems as I read your description.

Enjoy your Xantia 8)

I agree with Anders, a 30 sec interval between operations indicates a healthy accumulator sphere and hydraulic system.

Awesome :D thanks guys,

I thought the tick interval was meant to be about a minute or so?

A minute is very good - 30 secs beats any of mine! :(
