Xantia electric window winder failed

Post by pete_wood_uk »

Hi All

Started driving the Xantia this morning and noticed some wind noise, driver's window not shut properly. To cut the story short - the winder motor audiby spins, but the window glass is free to move up and down (by hand). I've sort of wedged it up and it's kinda staying there, ish.

I thought I remembered seeing something about this on the forum, but I've done a search or two and found lots of stuff about dodgy switches but nothing about the winder becoming detached.

Just what I need with the whole family with stinking colds and The Builders occupying all available garage space!

Can anyone offer any useful advice?

Many thanks
Pete

Good Morning Pete,

There is a plastic clip which holds the glass on to the winder mechanism. This can pop off, all you need to do is remove the trim from inside the door and put back on and hey presto it works as normal.

...or, the cable may be broken, you will find someone selling repair kits on Ebay.

Why do I get the feeling that there's a weekend's work in that "all you need to do is to remove the trim" sentence? :D

Anyway, thanks guys, I shall hope it stays put 'til Saturday and have a go at getting it to bits...

Cheers

If your car is the HDi in your signature (Mk 2?), it's likely to be the plastic block which the winder cable attaches to, (and subsequently attaches to the window itself) which has cracked, and the cable has slipped out.

AFAIK, the cable repair kits on ebay are for the Mk 1 Xantia, and won't fit the Mk 2 (not likely to be a broken cable anyway if its a Mk 2).

Same as the window winders sold by GSF - Mk 1 only.

The options - again, AFAIK - are a new winder assy from Citroen, a second hand unit from a scrapper (which will probably be in similar condition) or bodge/glue/wire up the plastic block so the cable end is retained in it.

I chose the latter. Has been working fine for a few months now.

Trim not too hard to get off, and winder mecanism easy to get out too - can be hard disengaging the wire clip which secures the plastic block to the window itself though.

Hi Kenny

Sorry, didn't reply. Been travelling. Thanks for the offer, I'll see what I find when I strip the door over the weekend.

Cheers
