Best place for Xantia fuel filters

Post by Napoleon »

Hi all

I'd like to run my 1.9 on svo and wvo especially, but realise that I will have to watch and replace the fuel filter on a regualr basis.

Has anyone else done this and found that other parts need close attenion? Such as the fuel lines themselves?

Anyway, where's a good supply of fuel filters for this excercise?

Thanks
Tim

On SVO i found the first 1 was quite bad with rubbish after 1k.
The second one at the next service, about 4.5k wasnt too bad and the next few were just as good as they went in to be honest.

On WVO if you filter to 1micron you should find that after the 2nd filter(first at say 300-500miles or 2 tanks) and the next at about the 3k mark then they should be coming out near clean as your 1 micron filtering is smaller than the 5-10micron the fuel filter will be rated to :)

Is it ok to use 'pattern' parts or should I buy Citroen?

I normally use halfrauds because I have access to a trade card and the filters seem good.
I've tried the plastic bodied ones with the open base, but the veg being sucked through causes the filter paper to swell, expanding the filter tight against the housing making it a bugger to get out.
Also the paper on those ones are kept in with a ring of silicon-like glue in the base, this comes away as the filter distorts.
Shouldn't cause any problems but I'd rather not have to fish bits out of the filter houseing whenever I do a service!

The other one to check (can't remember if you said you already had) is the one in the tank pickup under the back seat.

No, I didn't realise there was one under the back seat for the tank. Thanks for the warning. Would Halfds sell this one too or is too too specialist for them?

Also, would they understand which fuel filter I need for the Xantia? I was in there the other day and picked up a few FF boxes, but they didn't have much in the way of markings to say what vehicles they were for, which didn't help.

i belive there is only two diferant filters for diesel XANTs, they are both the same top hat shape, but the one for the 2.1 is slightly longer in hight

Check halfraud's chart for the fuel filter.

The one under the back seat (under a large rubber disc) is just a basic mesh that gets clogged with dirt etc that has found its way into the tank.
The mesh disc pops out and can be cleaned with petrol or an airline and re-used.
You'll need some small jubilee clips to re-secure the fuel feed pipes to the sender unit.
You may need a large flat screwdriver and hammer to unscrew the retaining ring too.

The one in the tank is probably a strainer like that fitted to the XM-

Here's what I found in the fuel filter housing after running Bio for a few months, it stank vile too -
