Saxo heater blower – blown resistors

Unread post by sbraud »

Hi all,

Looks like the two resistors on the heater blower of our 97 1.1 Saxo have blown. A few weeks ago I noticed the first two setting (low and medium) on the fan blower no longer worked and only the last (high) setting was working. Looking at the wiring diagram positions one and two travel through a resistor each before triggering the blower. Only position three (full) supplies direct currant.

So, not wanting to dismantle the dash, I was wondering if anyone has beaten this problem to get back a variable speed blower? I was hoping to put a variable rotating 12 volt switch in-line with the working feed? :?:

Any thought, help or advise on possible switch or a way of fixing original problem greatly appreciated. :D

Thanks
Steve

im prety sure its like a ZX, and in GSFs old catalouge they are £5.00 + VAT, and again if its like a ZX you remove the plastic scutle under the wind screen, then the plastic grile over the cab air intake, put your hand down the hole turn the resistor about a quarter of a turn, pull it out, unplug it then re/fitting is a reversal

far better than bodging it

On a saxo the resistor is part of the motor, its up behind the o/s dash, the bolts are accessable from under the scuttle panel.

Thanks guys for info… Gratefully received ! :D

Citronut – Does ZX have more than two blower setting (ie low, medium, high) and does it have one or two resistor units (ie One GSF unit is all you need for all fan speeds? – Sorry I’ve never had the pleasure to own a ZX (yet)

I was hoping not to dismantle Saxo dash to access blower as resistors are, as wheeler points out, part of the motor unit.

I was “hypothesising” on the possibility of regulating good direct supply with new resistor(s) inline of that supply to with new wiring to get back two or hopefully three fan speeds. Does this sound feasible?

Cheers

i think you only need to pock your head up under one or the other side of the dash to gain access to the fan, im prety sure you dont have to dismantle much at all,

and yes the ZX dose have three speed fan, and also one resitor pack dose all, similure on a lot of PSA cars

With a bit of luck, the resistor looks like this, and the silvery/yellow fuse has blown.

Thanks citronut and Clogzz for your help and advise! It’s been really useful, as usual :-D

I didn’t realise resistors were air cooled which may force me to rethink workaround if blower fuse/resistors are blown… I’ll have a root around to see if original are changeable and accessible and let you know how it goes.

Cheers gents
