hi
the advisery note from my sons last mot stated that, the front upper suspension rubber joints are slightly worn.
i cannot find any reference to this in the haynes.
i mistakenly replaced the drop link arm, to no avail.
could someone clue me up on this condition and the solution too it.
regards

Sounds like he means strut tops.
Very serious, especially if an MOT tester has made a remark..
See this for the full low-down on failing Strut Tops.
It's long and can be disturbing in parts. Sit down before reading!
If they are showing any signs of distress at all, replace ASAP.

Strut tops are a dealer only part. Quite expensive as well at around £100 per side. Hydractive and non-Hydractive ones are different and not interchangable.
Xac will shortly come along with a cautionary tale of apparantly good strut tops in a scrapyard that proved, on examination, to be anything but.
For peace of mind, always fit new ones. The actual job of fitting is dead simple, one of the easiest jobs on a Xantia

If you're lucky like me, you'll get one for about £95 inc VAT
Would have gotten both at that price but they ordered the wrong one.
Basically they hadn't got the price on their system right so charged me cost.
They then realised that after I took the wrong one back and charged me the proper price (minus a little).
As Jim said, I spent ages trying to get what we thought was a good strut top off a scrap car (the car was flat on the ground which was why it was so difficult) only to find it was rusty as hell and actually popped when I discarded it into the engine bay!
Having said that, the ones we took off Cassy are still in good condition, only starting to lose the rubber edge in one place, so Jenny will get them, and plenty of waxoyl etc.

I normally use silicon based greases on rubber, although would the strut top actually be rubber or would it be vitron?
