Xantia anti-roll bar bushes

Post by hirsty »

The front bushes are starting to clunk over bumps and need renewing. Is this straightforward ? The BOL mentions removing front height corrector and main stealer resetting. Is this necessary ?

it is more than likely the drop links not the anti roll bar bushes, and as long as you have new nuts with these it is quite straight forward, because if you cant undo the nuts you just lopp them off with an angle grinder,

no need to go anywhere near the height correctors

ARB bushes are generall pretty long-lived. It's unlikely they have failed to the extent they cause clunks.

Have a good look at your lower swivel joints and your wishbone bushes, both the "P" bushes on the rearward side of the wishbone and and the more ordinary bush on the opposite side.

If they're OK, the ARB bushes I believe can be changed with the bar in-situ with a bit of fiddling. You may need to drop the subframe a tad.

I've replaced them on Pugs like this and the Xantia is pretty similar in this area.

Got the car on a workshop ramp today and checked all possible joints. The last thing looked at was the new drop links and one of them has failed already. Now I'm wondering if it was ever replaced or just new nuts put on to make it appear new.
