Immobiliser/Key fob/Fuel pump

Post by KennyW »

Hi there team,

Sorry for the confusing subject, but i had to replace the ignition barrel of my MK2 Xantia TD1.9.
I eventually got someone to recode the new keys, but a new problem has appeared. The car wont start
The key light comes on and goes out when key is inserted in igniton. The engine turns over no problem but wont start.I have opened a injector and no fuel is spurting out.
The car will start if is pushed or allowed to roll down an incline then the clutch released with 2nd engaged. It runs as well as ever.

My question is can the key be recoded partially and still preventing the pump from distributing the fuel because the stop solenoid is closed?

key program isn't your problem because you can push start it so the immobiliser is working, changing the barrel doesn't need to have programmed the key again because the immobiliser has nothing to do with that ( its a security ring round the key that activates the immobiliser via the chip in the key ) so your problem could be air in the fuel system and pressure not building up enough to start it

I guess the new barrel came with new keys hence the need to code them ??
I agree though, If the imobiliser was not disarming the car would not push start, the key is either coded or its not, the key light is going out so its accepting the key. could well be an air leak problem.

Thanks for the repies,

Yes Wheeler it was a new barrel and keys.

Since i posted the original problem, i have been told it is a fuel problem.

But, if it is too much air in the system where do I start

Any suggestions will be gratefully received.

Sorry to be a pest but does anybody outknow how to bleed the air from a Xantia mk 2 bosch diesel pump.

I'm hoping to do the job over next week or so to get the car going again

Oh, there is another problem the steering rack has developed a small hydrolic fluid leak which i assume maybe the result of the split steering rack gaitor.

yet another job for hols

Message for Citrojim,

I have read your detailed thread about overhauling a Bosch Injection Pump and believe the my problem may lie in one of the seals within being knackered possible by myself attempting to start the car after replacing ignition barrel.

There is a good diesel injection specialist in Edinburgh, would the best course of action be to confirm diagnosis prior to striping pump down.

i had a similar problem with a VW diesel where it wouldn't start we hot.
