Guys and girls....my dreams of a stable of 70's quirky french cars is unfortunately going to have to take a back seat again to "life's little challenges"
A short while back i ran the Trafford Park branch of GSF, then i was sold on a new role for a dynamic company...or so i thought.....anyway, as of last Friday i am now part of the great unwashed again and in need of a new job
If anyone is working at a company who may have anything going then PM me please. My last job was General Manager
Any help in this difficult time would be greatly appreciated
Sorry to hear of your troubles Vince, unfortunatly I don't know of anywhere where there is a job going. I do hope that you do find something soon.
A panel beater/sprayer friend of mine has recently also lost his job and is also having great difficulty finding another job where his skills will be used.
Vince , I wish you well in your employment search.
Unfortunately we have a prime minister who has a knack of flattening industries by his basic stupidity and ignorance.
He gradually destroyed the housing market, firstly with the ludicrous HIP debacle, then with the stupid, timid, dithering stamp duty holiday nonsense(anyone know what the rules are now?)and finally by spending a lot of our future taxes on bailing out inefficient banks so they can pay themselves multimillion pound bonuses but still refuse to lend us OUR money.
He set about destroying the motor trade with the ridiculous ,greedy, spitefull, lying retrospective VED increase debacle. If people can't sell their present cars they can't buy new ones can they? Not rocket science is it?
Fortunately he can,t drive because of some physical shortcoming, and Alistair Darling is a pathological car hater.Aparrantly his first act on gaining some sort of power in Edinburgh was to cancel a major road building project to relieve congestion, which is now why the whole country has to endure 50% of the radio traffic bullitins being about scotland.
I can't believe that anyone apart from the 800,000 people he has given non jobs to since1997(We're all paying their wages and will be paying their pensions)could vote for him again.
The really disturbing thing though is that while he is still in charge he is commiting US to further borrowing every day. Apparantly its now about £150,000 per person.I am seriously worried about our future as this governments only aim seems to stay in power (FAT CHANCE)and to hell with the consequences.
Good luck everybody

Makes it all the more worthwhile to buy a 2000 model!
Drifting off topic a bit, I've read that it takes about 60,000 miles worth of driving emissions to produce a new car. So taxing older 'less efficient' cars off the road is either a red herring, or alternatively complete BS...
Best of luck Vince. Best of preparation too - it really makes a difference to your chances. Keep positive, and keep on trying. I know it can be hard at times - I was there myself last year.

Running with your tangent from the topic...
Lets say that a new car has emissions that are 25% lower than the old model, that means that to break even on emissions moving from the old car to the new car, the new car has to drive 240,000 miles (60k miles / 0.25). Even if the new car has 50% of the emissions of the old, thats still 120k miles that need to be covered to break even, I'd guess that the average mileage that cars cover is something like that, i.e. taxing older cars off the road has no positive effect.
