Xantia Traffic Master

Post by Quackers »

I renewed my licence today for my Xantia and the Traffic Master light never goes Green or Red, just stays off, and i know the licence is active because if i press the button it just says "Traffic Master" instead of "Traffic Master, Licence Expired, telephone......"

I traveled from the Midlands to heathrow, on the M6, M42, M40, M4, A34, so i should have recieved a signal on at least one of those roads.

Any ideas as to why it seems non active?

It may be that its setting is wrong, when you approach (or more than likely are already on  ) a motorway/primary route the light should glow green (if clear) or red (congestion). Try pressing the TM button very quickly in succession to enable the unit.

Unless I am very much mistaken, the products being described in that article have nothing to do with the unit fitted to the Xantia, which uses data broadcast from FM radio stations, and has no connection with the GSM network.

read that bit
Electronic compass. It needs to know what direction you're travelling in in order to give you traffic information up ahead rather than back the way you just came.
Basically it recieves a traffic update for all directions, and only plays you the relevant ones to your current journey.

When I was working for the AA, they produced a small portable cheapo version which simply told you what was up ahead by displaying different symbols.

It doesn't know which way you are going until you pass at least two blue masts. It can then obviously tell your direction by which one you passed first. The only information they can glean from the old Xantia system is which masts you have passed and in what order. If you turn off a major route then it has no idea where you are.

But this is all academic anyway as anyone who really wanted to find out can tell exactly where you are if you've got a mobile phone that's switched on, which is most of us most of the time.
It infuriates me to be wrong when I know I'm right

im going to remove mine and see what makes it tick, I don't need it where I am because I know where all the jams are and when they happen plus ive only driven 1,345 miles in 7 months daylight only I don't like driving too much these days because there are too many aggressive drivers on the road already so im sure they don't need another one  that might change if I get a v6 xantia automatic activa cough in exchange for mine  :P

Hi,
Traffic master in the xantia works like this :-
Once you have activated it with a new key, you will find that if you press the button on the dash it will say traffic master, then not ask you for a key.
It is then working ok.
It only gives you a message if one is needed and only once you have passed close to a sender/transmitter (Like ones on motorway bridges). If you are on the motorway, you will notice that the warning light on the traffic master button is green and goes red when in alert mode which also sends out a warning through your radio speakers. You can put the system into manual mode in otherwords silence the auto message but leaves a red light and flashes red when a warning is received.
It also turns itself on every time you tart the car.

How can you tell its GPS related ? as far as i know only the newer trafficmaster systems with navigation screens recieve GPS info & they have external aerials, surely the xantia would have this to ?
