xantia outside temperature sensor location

My outside temperature gauge shows flashing -- -- rather than the temperature. Where is the temp gauge located?. I am assuming it is in the drivers side door mirror as this has been replaced previously, before I owned the car. If this is the case can the sensor be purchased seperatly or only with a complete door mirror assy?

In the MK1 its in the drivers door mirror. On the MK2 its in the passengers side...

If you feel underneath the mirror hinge, you'll feel a little bump if the sensor is there. It's just a thermistor.

So why did it swop sides?

I didn't think it did change sides.... did it??

I was under the impression they were all on the passenger mirror... Ill do a check on that, I have a S1 VSX here and a S2 Exclusive too...

You are joking right? The weight of a temp sensor wouldn't be an issue in weight balance.

Isn't that a silly place to put a temp sensor? Wouldn't wind chill factor affect it? And sun shining on the mirror warming it up.

BMW's have them inside the front bottom bumbper in the corner, no wind factor to affect it, no sun shining on it, and lower to the ground, therefore quicker to register freezing temps on the road surface. It's not that exposed to the elements either as it is tucked on the inside.

The sensors ARE in the mirror, and I've never experianced them having wind chill problems, or heated mirror syndrome affecting them...

The change of location could be to do with the location of the gauge. In the MK1 it's in the Tacho whereas in the MK2 it's in the dash over nearer the passenger side along with the clock.

Therefore, less wires, cheaper looms

Although that would only be true in a RHD car

Paul, no, I've not seen a windchill problem but if you park up so that direct sunlight is striking the mirror body in summer, you can see some pretty wild readings until you get moving

I've seen mine saying 50 degrees! Global Warming
