identifying a BX engine, and ignition coils

Unread post by juraj »

Hi all

recetly i rang Bosch to ask about the coil in the BX and they wanted to know the engine type, so I went down to the car and all I could find was DFZ stamped into the block along with the engine number,

the car is a 1987 1.9 8valve injected TRI, so according to some websites it has an engine type of :

159A (XU9S)

or

D2A (XU92C)

or

D2E (XU92C+)

so what have I got in there, and how do I find out?

bye

ps apparently the coil is an ordinary oil filled type with part number 0 221 122 317, which is very expensive, and apparently i can replae it with the stanard oil filled type - SU12 (which is for cars with contact points) or with any of te MEC transitor types made for cars with electronic distributors like the bx.

So does anyone have any experience with fitting an alternative coil to the BX?

bye all

159A is the 105bhp engine made from 184/87,
D2A 105bhp made from 1986/90,
D2C 96 bhp 1986/90,
D6A 125bhp 1986/90 16v,
DFZ 104BHP 1986/90.

so you could use 159A or the D2A
also remember peugeot use the same system as Citroen

it should be stamped on the front of the engine top right hand side between the cylinder head and block gearbox side

the DFZ is the XU9JA and listed as the 16v in Europe made from 1986 to 1993 I don't think there is any difference with the blocks on either 8 or 16v just the cylinder head
