C5 Strut Tops

Post by hawkeye »

Hi All,

Having replaced the strut tops on the Xantia (just before they failed, judging by the parlous state of the metal supports), I need to de-rust the same items on the C5 to try and prolong their lives. Apart from putting the suspension on the lowest setting, is there anything else I need to do before disconnecting the front suspension hydraulic pipes? I understand that the Hydractive suspension is not de-pressurised in the same way as the conventional hydraulic system, so is there some other action I need to take to make the system safe to work on?

Grateful for any advice.

C5's are fitted with VERY long life new generation spheres, I doubt anyone has changed a sphere let alone a strut top!

Having seen them with 170k plus and still on their original spheres, thats long life!!

If you have access to a lexia machine you can fully depressurise the system with that or there are front & rear depressurising nipples, they are in different locations depending on whether you have hydractive 3 or 3+.
