Trailering a Xantia

Unread post by Toby_HDi »

Does anyone know any companies that do car trailer hire? There is something among this forum that has caught my eye yet I have no way of getting it home.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Hss do trailers.

Are you not a member of the aa or RAC?

If so get the train to the car and then just call them out if its bust and get them to tow you home :D

Or take the bits and they may fix it to make it driveable/safe for you if its easy enough :)

I've used this company before to hire a bike trailer, they're nice people to deal with and reasonably priced.

Toby,

May I sound a small note of caution here. If you are contemplating towing a Xantia on a trailer with a Xantia then my advice is don't. With the unladen weight of the trailer plus the weight of the car on it, you will comfortably exceed 100% of the kerbweight of the towcar. Not recommended.

For us caravan tuggers, the recommendation is to never exceed 85%. You can go a bit over if you're an experienced tugger and even up to near 100% if you are on a short run and keep the speed well down but never to exceed 100%.

The tail can start to wag the dog with nasty consequences. Bikers used to call 'em "Tank Slappers". Caravanners call 'em "Snakes". All I know is they usually end in tears... Often with the towcar flipped.

Sorry to go all nanny. I've had a caravan start to snake on me and it's not nice.

Thanks for the advice Jim. I was not going to tow with a car, was going to use something slightly bigger

I don't think its going to happen now but I will keep these companies in mind as I'm sure they'll come in handy at some point
