1999 Xantia HDi bites the dust

Drove the car to work last Thursday - went to start it to come home. Couple of clunky noises and no-starty.

AA come out, and confirm that it won't start. Drag me home.

Local garage were finally able to look at it yesterday. ECU was complaining of crank and cam sensors not being in sync

Seems it'd jumped some teeth on its timing belt. They reset the timing, but the old girl was only firing on 1 cyl.

Glad I didn't put the 2 new tyres on that it needs, and I need to syphon the nearly full tank.

It's going to be scrapped sometime after this weekend, but on the offchance that anyone is interested in a '99 MK2 27.5bhp HDi Xantia Estate in various shades of white then drop me a line.
It's got the usual worn driver's seat, no parcel shelf. It'd done very nearly (like ~200 miles off) 180k miles.

It may help folk decide if there's anything in this for them and you both
if your location is mentioned!

The value of scrap has plummeted over the past few weeks so don't
expect more than about 70-80quid so it may very well be worth taking
any offers/suggestione on this enthusiast forum.

At the very least I know someone here wanted a colour coded electric
mirror!

Don't scrap it solely on the basis of a slipped/broken cam belt.

The HDi uses rockers like the 2.1TD and if you are lucky, the only damage will be a few broken rockers. Easily replaced

Not even a head-off job.

If the car is good otherwise good, it may not be hard to resolve the issues, especially as it failed on start-up.

As Andreew says, it's more valuable as parts than as a weigh-in. I know someone immediately after a good few bits. Where are you?

Depending on what the rest of the car is like it may not be all that bad to fix.
HDi's often seem to escape with broken rockers when the cambelt breaks, or slips.

I sometimes wish I hadn't sold my Xantia, although it was so many different shades of white it could have been used as a colour chart for Tippex.....

It's in a little village called Caerwent, which is near Chepstow in Monmouthshire. (NP26 5AX)

I appreciate that it might not be too expensive to fix, but its a time thing for me.

I only paid £800 for it 18,000 miles and 12 months ago, and it has served me well in that time.

If anyone is interested in it, then they're more than welcome to offer me some money for it then I'll take that rather than scrap it.

Oh, btw it's got MOT till July 09 as well.
