Xantia cutting out when driving!!!!!!!!!!

Post by KennyW »

Good Morning Gang,

My Xant 1.9 td mk2 is started to cut when i'm driving. it's going fine then with out warning it cuts out.Everything switches off.

I checked the car quickly and found the -ve terminal was loose and tightened same. But the same thing happened the following day.Battery terminal was secure this time.

I'm beginning to suspect the old regular old fault with the ignition as it seems to only happen with the internal blower going. My mk2 has the conversion done by the manufacturer.

Any suggestions and thoughts greatfully accepted.

Kenny

I would suspect a faulty ignition switch, I had the same problem with my CX.

Thanks for the reply Peter,

A quick update, i have driven the car all friday and it hasn't cut out. I switched the internal heater blower off.

I will drive the car Sat with it turned on to confirm the problem as peter suggested.

Also whta is the part no from GSF?

Hi Kenny, :D

Even with the blower switched by a relay, there is still something like a heavy bunch of keys hanging off the lock barrel causing a twisting of the switch part, and that will cause ignition cut-out, with all dash lights going out.

As for the GSF part, can’t find it now, but it’s likely to be an expensive complete barrel-and-switch assembly, with a new, different key.
Never seen anything about the switch part only being available separately.

Hi Steve, you can "cull"most of a Fleabay link. Look for the "QQitem (item code) QQ" and snip everything after it - including the preceding "QQ".

I believe it's the vertical bars in its URL which screw up forum code in preserving the link.

Regards, Adam.

Thank for the posts guys,

Guess what I've been driving the car the last three days and nothing has happened :?

The only thing I did was to change the internal heater module to the original which i repaired the usual problem.Tthe other module is a new one I obtained about a year ago.

Now I am confused
